Our Home
Westwood Horse Center
We have learned a lot about home improvement as a result of taking on the renovation of this wonderful old Farmhouse. We had no
idea what was actually in store for us as we set out to bring our Dream to life. While we are tackling each project, we continue to learn
more and more about this old house, and upon completion of each task, we look forward to the next!
I hope you enjoy looking through our before and after pictures. We have a lot to do yet, but have already come a very long way!

The kitchen was a complete remodel. We had hoped to make due until after we moved in, but as we began to clean and evaluate the
condition of the room, it quickly became out #1 priority! JR and I complete gutted this kitchen. In the process, we also decided to switch
the pantry and the bathroom, as their prior location did not make much sense with the overall layout of that area. As you can see below,
we walled off the door that used to go to the pantry and made that a small bathroom because it also has a door to the living room. We
learned as we installed the new kitchen cabinets that nothing in a home of this age is square! What was flush to the floor on one end of a
wall, was 3 inches off the floor to be level at the opposite end! We still have to reinstall trim around the doors and windows, and do
some decorating too, but this task is starting to wind down!
The complete remodel of the master bathroom is our next big undertaking. Again, the bathroom was not in usable condition when we
moved in. The flooring was molded from the moisture (carpet), and the smell was unbearable, not to mention unhealthy!  While we
work on it, we are all making the steep trek up that attic stairs to the only other full bathroom in the house. There was a large tub in the
floor of the bathroom that we had removed. We hired professionals to repair the flooring so it could be weight bearing again. Of course,
our we also have the most wonderful Plumber and Electrician that are able to come at a moments notice to help us as well! We can't
wait until this project is complete and we can say goodbye to the attic stairs for good! LOL
The bedrooms were less of a chore than the rest of the house, but still needed quite a bit or work. First, there was cleanup, then repairs
to the walls and ceilings, then more cleanup, then we could finally move the furniture in. The walls and ceilings of this home are mostly
plaster. The walls had many years of cracks to repair. We also had to cover one of the ceilings (Randi's room) with dry wall in order to
make a permanent repair to a weakening roof situation. We didn't want it falling on her while she slept! I also refinished all the wood
floors throughout the home. We have not done anything with the 'walk-in' closet yet. That is a project for another time :) We had a lot of
drywall repair to do in the guest bedroom (finished attic) due to water and mold damage as the result of a leaky roof. THANK YOU to
the previous owners for repairing the roof before they left!
